Tanzania – Global Kilimo Smart is proud to announce the renewal of its strategic partnership with Climate KIC for the third year running. Building on two years of successful collaboration, the 2025–2026 cycle will accelerate the “Pastoralist Youth Climate Adaptation & Rangeland Resilience” initiative in Kilosa District, empowering local young people to lead climate adaptation activities and restore degraded grazing lands.
Project Leadership
Costantine Edward, Head of Program at Global Kilimo Smart, will oversee implementation. Under his leadership, the organization has grown from piloting youth-led adaptation models to establishing robust governance structures and sustainable enterprises.
“Our continued partnership with Climate KIC reflects our shared commitment to equipping pastoralist youth with the skills, knowledge, and platforms they need to build resilient communities,” said Costantine Edward. “In this third year, we will deepen our impact by launching new demonstration plots, strengthening cooperatives, and expanding advocacy channels so that young voices shape climate policy at the district level.”
Key Components of the 2025–2026 Programme
Demonstration Grazing Plots: Seven locally managed sites will showcase rotational grazing techniques that restore pasture health and improve water retention.
Youth-Led Cooperatives: Five climate-adaptive enterprises (including beekeeping and drought-resistant fodder production) will diversify income sources for 450 pastoralist youth, 60% of whom are young women.
Governance & Advocacy: The 21-member Youth Pastoral Council will draft ward-level adaptation plans and present them to the Kilosa District Council, institutionalizing youth participation in policy dialogue.
Early Warning & Knowledge Exchange: An SMS-based alert system and blended curriculum—integrating traditional ecological wisdom with modern climate science—will equip participants to anticipate and respond to climate risks.
Strengthening Local Networks
Global Kilimo Smart will continue collaborating with Sokoine University of Agriculture, Maasai and Barabaig elders, the Tanzania Pastoralists Network (TAPANET), and the Forum for Climate Change (ForumCC). These partnerships ensure technical rigor, cultural relevance, and pathways for youth-led recommendations to influence national climate strategies.
